Study on Marriage: Spouses Lose the Spark After Just Three and a Half Years

As the saying goes, the honeymoon phase doesn’t last forever. Unfortunately, for the majority of couples, this saying proves to be true – the ‘I love you’s’ seldom spoken, the kisses seldom given. In addition to the loss of emotional support, couples enter a dangerous comfort zone: sweatpants for daily attire; makeup reserved for special, if any, occasions; the toilet seat eternally raised.

A recent study found that over 2,000 couples agree on the three and half year mark that signifies the beginning of the end. It concluded that that was the turning point when married couples preferred the TV over a nice conversation, replaced the dinner table with drive-thru windows, and yawned their way out of intimacy. Couples become distant friends under the same roof, on the same bed.
